Speaker Biographies:

HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes’ entrepreneurial endeavors include successes in a variety of industries from founding a pizza restaurant chain to building the top online paintball equipment supplier in Canada before founding Invoke, the agency that created the popular social media dashboard tool.

Ryan frequently presents at conferences internationally undefined including 140tc, OMMA, 140conf, IMA, Open Network Labs undefined speaking about the evolution of the social web. He is widely quoted in media sources including NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Guardian (UK), and Venture Beat. Personally, he is an enthusiast of yoga, rock climbing, paragliding, surfing and playing with his dog Mika.

Most of Alex’s career has been in the Communications field, both as high ranking executive and as an entrepreneur. He started his career at Ogilvy & Mather as a senior account director in the early eighties. He then went on to launch a creative advertising agency called Tam Tam, which quickly became the most prominent small agency in Canada and sold it to the TBWA network. 

In the early nineties, he became Partner and CEO of Prism Communications, Canada’s largest retail advertising agency. Prism was sold in 1997 to Bozell Worldwide and Alex spent two years in New York City to work for Bozell as part of the transaction. Back in Montreal in 2000, Alex worked for Cossette Communications, Canada’s largest Communications group, first launching and expanding their Interactive Business Unit called Fjord, and then becoming EVP of Cossette in charge of all Montreal operations, supervising over 400 employees. In 2008, Alex went back to New York City for 2 years as a special consultant to Cellfish media, one of the world’s leading digital media publishers.

Alex holds a MBA from McGill University.

Eric Diep is a math dropout and cofounder of A Thinking Ape.  Since 2007, Eric has been at the forefront of technology building consumer products for web and mobile that have reached over 100 million people. 

His startup, A Thinking Ape, was recently highlighted in the New York Times as one of the top grossing developers on the iPhone platform worldwide. Eric has been invited to speak about his views on the consumer web at international events in San Francisco, London, and Amsterdam. 

Eric is a former math student of the University of Waterloo.

Mr. Fred Speckeen served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Advanced Economic Research Systems Inc. and Terapeak; a Victoria based start-up monetizing e-commerce transaction data from eBay with a freemium, premium and API pricing models. Prior to joining Advanced, Fred was part of the executive team responsible for strategy and business develop for TC-Helicon, a world leader in voice-processing tools for audio recording industry, and the CEO of a joint venture between TC-Helicon and IVL Technologies of Victoria. 
Fred has an MBA from the Ivey School of Business and an undergraduate degree from St. Francis Xavier.

Lightning Pitch Opportunities

We invite companies/individuals to apply for Lightning Pitches.  Ideal for early stage companies looking to raise funds or create visibility.  VEF is looking for Lightning Pitches preferably from companies that match our event topic.  The places are strictly controlled, 100 second time slots at the beginning of the VEF presentation.

The Vancouver Enterprise Forum (VEF) is the premier networking forum for technology entrepreneurs. The VEF holds eight events each year - usually on the fourth Tuesday of the month. These events provide attendees with an opportunity to network and learn. The evening involves a feature presenter covers a topic especially relevant to technology entrepreneurs such as financing and CEO war stories. Networking sessions are included before and after the presentation for speakers and attendees to connect with each other. 


Pre-registration tickets are $45.00 each, door registration tickets are $50.00, memberships at $200 for a one year period includes admission to our eight events per year.
