As mobile devices become far more than just a communication tool, significant opportunities are emerging that leverage these capabilities. Mobile is becoming one of the most important mediums for organizations to connect and sell. While mobile commerce continues to progress and grow, we're still in the early days. 

Join our panel of local leaders that are building solutions in the mobile commerce/payments space. They will share their experiences to date and their thoughts for the future, exploring ideas, strategies, and challenges.

Moderator: Peter Sheldon
Peter serves eBusiness & Channel Strategy Professionals. He focuses on eCommerce technology and services solutions, including B2C and B2B eCommerce platforms, mobile commerce, digital media, web analytics, search, personalization, content management, order management, product content/information management, and customer relationship management, among others. Peter has specific expertise helping eBusiness leaders understand the integration challenges between eCommerce and back-office technologies. His interests focus on mobile commerce trends, social commerce, digital media, and multichannel retail.

Peter has extensive experience working with an ecosystem of eCommerce technologies, including eCommerce platforms, content management, web analytics, search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), digital asset management, payment systems, and social media, to name a few. Peter has more than 11 years of experience in eCommerce and web technologies. Most recently, Peter held both product management and product marketing positions at Elastic Path, a leading eCommerce platform vendor. At Elastic Path, he played a critical role in defining the product road map and strategic direction of the platform and helped clients define and execute their eCommerce strategies. He also worked as a senior business analyst at JP Morgan and Ford Motor Company, where he started his career in eCommerce developing a variety of transactional online stores for new and used vehicles. Peter's experience spans both business and technology, including business analysis, product management, product marketing, solution architecture, user experience, and online marketing.

Peter holds a BEng in manufacturing systems engineering from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland.

Speaker: Igor Faletski
Igor is the CEO of Mobify, a mobile platform company focusing on the vision of “One Web”, where integrity of the web is maintained across devices and for all website visitors. Mobify's HTML5 platform is powering 20,000+ mobile commerce enabled websites for customers like Starbucks, Threadless, Wired and Bonobos. 

Igor holds a B.Sc in Computing Science from Simon Fraser University.

Speaker: Amielle Lake
Amielle Lake is the CEO of Tagga Media, an end-to-end mobile solutions company.  Tagga’s campaign management platform utilizes the mobile device to connect consumers to a brand’s advertising media, and provides detailed insight into target audience interactions and behavior.

Prior to founding Tagga, Amielle held a range of executive marketing and corporate development roles across the software, financial services and mining market sectors. She currently sits on the boards for Mobile Marketing Assn Canada, DigiBC, the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs, NextMedia, and Kids Up Front. Amielle holds an MBA, a B.A., and is a published author. Her book, The Elephant Hunters, is about how social interactions determine outcomes in the financial world. Outside of the office, she is an aspiring cyclist, competitive swimmer, and devotee of the culinary arts.

Speaker: Michael Gokturk
Michael founded one of Canada’s most successful and rapidly growing finance companies, VersaPay Corp. which was the #1 company in Canada on the 2009 PROFIT HOT 50 List. He left VersaPay to found Payfirma, and is a true start-up innovator fostering creativity in the workplace, encouraging nothing short of excellence from his team. In 2011, Michael lead his team at Payfirma to win KPMG's Startup Awards as Best New Canadian Startup of 2011. Michael was also recognized as BIV's Top 40 Under 40 and named Best Business Person for 2011 by the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce.

Speaker: Ryan Volberg
Ryan co-founded Vivonet in 1999 and has served as the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer since that time. Ryan is the driving force behind Vivonet’s 'Enable, Acquire and Organize' retail transactions strategy as well as the visionary behind the Halo™ Secure Web-Based POS product. During Ryan’s tenure, Vivonet created the web based POS category and established itself as the leader in software-as-a-service (SaaS). Ryan also leads the company’s M&A activities and has made a number of strategic acquisitions over the past several years. 

Prior to co-founding Vivonet, Ryan founded several start-ups including a medical device manufacturer. Ryan studied Business Administration and Psychology at Simon Fraser University as well as Computer Based Information Systems at the University of Victoria. In 2007 Ryan was named to the Vancouver 2007 'Top 40 under 40' list.

Speaker: Hamed Shahbazi

Mr. Hamed Shahbazi founded TIO Networks in August 1997 as a solution provider in the self-service automated kiosk marketplace. Since then Mr. Shahbazi has transitioned the Company into a payment solution provider that specializes in delivering bill payment and other financial services through a variety of automated self-service, retail POS, mobile and web-based methodologies.

Mr. Shahbazi earned his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1997. Mr. Shahbazi also completed Harvard Law’s program on Negotiation for Business Executives. In December 2001, Business in Vancouver presented Mr. Shahbazi with the prestigious 40 Under 40 Award in recognition for his achievements as one of top performers in business, public or private life.

The Vancouver Enterprise Forum (VEF) is the premier networking forum for technology entrepreneurs. The VEF holds eight events each year - usually on the fourth Tuesday of the month. These events provide attendees with an opportunity to network and learn. The evening involves a feature presenter, covering topics especially relevant to technology entrepreneurs such as financing and CEO war stories. Networking sessions are included before and after the presentation for speakers and attendees to connect with each other.
